Your Marketing In Bloom
May 13th, 2008 Dina at Wordfeeder.comI’m doing a garden this year. Not just two tomato plants, a handful of herbs and some flowers, but a real garden, with real vegetables that we will hopefully be able to eat without any serious repercussions.
As I make my clumsy foray into the world of raised beds and organic composting, I’m reminded of my less experienced copywriting clients, and filled with sympathy for them.
This is because gardening makes me feel lost and overwhelmed. What’s the big deal, stick a few plants in the ground, right? Wrong. There are techniques to learn and there are issues of spacing and timing, that I’m only now just hearing about.
You can’t just buy the Burpee Seed Starter Kit. You have to make sure the plants have adequate light. The light can’t be a desk lamp off to the side - this makes the plants “reach” for the sun. They become leggy and weak instead of stout and strong. Who knew?
I’m relying on my mother, the lifelong gardener and master of the raised French bed technique, to enlighten me in the ways of growing organic produce. It should be an interesting summer.
Likewise, I must remember to enlighten my clients who are just starting out with their small businesses. These people have little to no knowledge of the creative process, and so they approach new marketing projects with great caution. They’re hesitant, wobbly on those new marketing legs. They don’t know what to expect, and it scares them a little bit.
I’ve been writing copy for more than 12 years; I dig right into new assignments the way my mom throws her whole weight into turning over the earth in her back yard.
I take it for granted that people will just slip easily into the stages of marketing project development. But I must remember to get into their shoes.
If you’re working with Wordfeeder.com Copywriting and Marketing and you have concerns about the process… just ask me! I promise I will give you all the details you need to market your business smartly and successfully on the web.
