Emotional IQ as a confidence killer
Do some of your clients struggle around negative self-perception that comes from their emotional state? Maybe de-motivating messages from their parents, caregivers and peers stay with them. Emotional IQ has to do with recognizing this type of self-sabotage, and moving out of this defeatist state of mind. Some tips that may help:
- Recognize when you're falling into self-doubt
- Seek out a situation that changes your self-perception
- Find support from role models and positive people
Emotional IQ determines your success outcomes in business
Let's use the hypothetical story of a lady who dreams of launching her own furniture refurbishing business. She has the talent and imagation, and works hard. But she gets caught up in stuff that doesn't matter really, and this derails her.
For example, she fixates on negative thoughts about another area woman who refurbishes furniture. She thinks that the woman basically stole her idea, and steals all her ideas!
Rise above negative emotions, transform the outcome
The second woman is diligent and focused. If she has negative thoughts from time to time, she doesn't dwell in them or let them stop her from making plans and following through in her business. She produces, markets, makes sales.
What if, instead of the first woman viewing the second woman as her rival and enemy, she befriended her and they teamed up! In joint business ventures, they could go far! Or she could just pick the woman's brain and learn something. This is an example of high emotional IQ - moving past the irrational fears and emotions that limit you.
Emotional IQ is about growing a thick skin
Nothing can penetrate a thick emotional skin, and that boosts your changes for success. You may work with clients who let negative emotional states paralyze them. If they allow defeating thoughts to fester, they are essentially giving power to these limiting emotions, letting them be owned by them.
Success in business requires a thick skin, and "emotional IQ" is a real thing. The faster you can overcome negative perceptions and emotions in your business, the more successful you will be in the shortest amount of time. If your clients trip over their own emotions when trying to conduct business, and stay down for a while, as their coach you can help them rise up.
Emotional IQ transforms negative thoughts to positive action
Negative people waste precious time. They may simmer in inaction, doing a lot of complaining and blaming, but never taking the steps necessary to move past a problem or challenge.
In business, hours translate to dollars, so any time a lesson goes on too long you're losing money. So it really pays to be vigilant against naysayers and negativity of ANY kind.
This is really why high producers, high income earners, entrepreneurs… it's all wrapped up and related to staying motivated, living your best life, looking at the positive. It REALLY is true, being a positive person is a marker for success and profits! And that starts with emotional IQ.
